This is the time for family bonding, friends, holiday cheer, and decoration. But if this isn’t your thing, we thankfully live in the age of unending options. I’m talking, of my favorite vacation/holiday pastime: the binge-watch.

This time-honored pastime doesn’t have to be anti-social. Share your favorite TV shows with your loved ones and make this Christmas even merrier. And watch what? Well, there I can help.

2017 begins with a whole stack of new and returning TV shows to get your teeth into!

In-case you haven’t watched the earlier seasons yet, this is just the RIGHT TIME!


sherlock 2017

Sherlock’s back. The British detective series returns on January 1, 2017, a new villain and a sinister tagline – ‘it’s not a game anymore’.

A modern-day interpretation of the Arthur Conan Doyle saga, Sherlock has a foreboding line-up, with a premier titled ‘The Six Thatchers’. Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock may face horrors closer home, with his kindered loved ones (including Martin Freeman’s Dr John Watson) under attack.

In case you haven’t watched the previous seasons or the festive special, spoiler alert  – Doctor Watson (Martin Freeman) and his wife Mary (Amanda Abbington) prepare for their biggest challenge yet : becoming parents.  A dead Moriarty may have reprecussions from beyond, while Toby Jones is a nasty act to match. And then, there is the third brother!

Why students should watch it:

Wait – you haven’t watched it yet? Then these are the days you should spend catching up with the last three seasons and see how Holmes defied death, paparazzi and Moriarty. (Oops!) And learn, from a pro….

What? Well, my dear Dr. Watson, here are some of the positive takeaways which you get from the shows:

Homeland TV Show

Carrie is back on January 15th. This time, the ex-CIA operative tackles the issue of Muslim welfare in US and is based between a Presidential election and the inauguration of a new Head of Office.

Make it your mission to catch up on all the previous seasons, including the cliffhanger season 5, before the date.

Homeland, an American political thriller television series based on the Israeli series Prisoners of War, follows the travails of Carrie Mathison, a bipolar CIA operative and how she grows within the organisation. Spoiler: A Prisoner of War, Carrie had followed up on in the first season to rescind his fealty al-Qaeda and turn into a double agent, while she gets more involved with him in seasons 2 and 3. Season 4 saw an engaging session in Pakistan and featured drone strikes, while Season 5 saw Carrie part ways with the agency and establish herself in the private sector.

Why students should watch it:

While Carrie’s tumultous tale is fast-paced take on how the CIA has been involved in the recent years with world politics (especially in the middle east and Pakistan), it also brings several lessons to heart:

Missing Mike and the rest of the gang? Suits returns January 25, 2017 to Litt you up!

The show revolves around talented college dropout Mike Ross, who initially works as a law associate for Harvey Specter despite never actually attending law school. The show focuses how Harvey and Mike manage to close cases while keeping Mike’s secret.

In case you’re new to Harvey and Mike’s tale – stop reading and move to the next section! Season 6 saw Mike emerge from his prison stint, considering an offer to remain a consultant with the firm, while Jessica Pearson opted to look for life beyond it. Harvey Specter may begin season 7 at the top of things too. There is also talk that Mike would close on an romantic interest too.

The drama begins with Dorothy Gale, looking for her mother. She gets swept up in a tornado and ends up in a mystical land of witches, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy. The show is all about Dorothy’s journey and how she uncovers her true destiny.

Why should a student watch it?

  • Be ready for the new experiences. You never know what’s next.
  • Never belittle yourself. You can always make a difference.
  • Always be prepared for the worst.
  • Handling new circumstances and situations. And……
  • They say Emerald City is strangely akin to Game of Thrones Westeros (Do I need to say more?)


riverdale TV show

Welcome to a town where everything is perfect, but nothing is as it seems. Riverdale premieres January 26, 2017. Don’t miss it!

Riverdale is an upcoming American teen drama television series based on the characters by Archie Comics. The plot revolves around Archie, Betty, Veronica, and their friends, exploring the surrealism of small town life – the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade.

Why should a student watch it?

  • Importance of friendship
  • Things are not that simple as it seems. Be prepared for the worst
  • Always be prepared to face any eventuality
  • How to keep yourself balanced in stressful situations
  • And, no matter what life gives you, accept it with a smile.
