The buzz over getting admission into a college in the University of Delhi can be well seen around the university during the time of college admissions.
Though the online admissions have cut the queues significantly over the years, the excitement is still in the air. Among popular colleges, getting an admission in St. Stephens College, University of Delhi is a dream for students all over the country! Though everyone knows about the ‘cool’ tag associated with the college, there are few things you might not know yet.
Here are the 5 things to know about St. Stephens College, which
not many know of!
Pretty Scary Admission Procedure (But surely worth it!)
Even though the college is a part of the University of Delhi, it follows its own system of admissions. You have to apply on separate forms for the college and need to go through multi level testing modes to get through. Moreover, it’s not just an objective form asking the same old name, address, and academic
Moreover, it’s not just an objective form asking the same old name, address, and academic qualification in figures, but also asks questions which need some really attractive answers. For example, you need to state why you want the college/subject, what next you plan to do once done, your aim, aspiration, etc.) After you are filtered through the cut-off, you need to sit for an interview as well! Not too easy, huh?
The Political Locha
As we all know the popularity of DUSU, Stephens is a step ahead everywhere. Not only DUSU, St. Stephens College has its own SUS (Students Union Society). The Principal of the College heads the society with Third-year students as secretary and second-year students as coordinators. The election follows the Open Court system where there is a live debate followed by Voting for the posts.
The Party Culture
After the college admissions, and the elections are over, the party begins! ‘Capriccio’ is the mini fest of the College and ‘Harmony’ is the main one. Besides other cultural and social events, the DJ/Karaoke and musical evening is open till 9:30 pm. Not only this, the College celebrates every festival by dressing in particular dress code (followed by a lunch of the same theme) be it Onam, Eid, Haryana Day, or any other occasion.
What’s fancy?
Now the ‘cool’ factor! Everything in the College has its own nomenclature. Don’t say canteen because it’s café. Even the Class rooms have their own names: – XC, XD, NPLT, OPLT, etc. There are names for lawns and corridors as well. The hostel isn’t hostel but ‘Residence’. Even the residences have quirky names like Wild West, ASLA, etc. Cool, know?
All play no work? Think Again!
Sorry for bursting the bubble but it’s not all play and no work for Jack here in one of the coolest colleges of the university! As B.Sc pass out Raja Pandit reports, there’s a compulsory morning assembly for fresher students and before the semester ends, you have to have 66.6% attendance to appear for your exams. Unlike other institutions, no matter how well you do in academics, ECA (College Societies), or Sports, this isn’t going to help with the attendance issue.
Concluding the overall experience, Raja Pandit, a B.Sc pass out from the college says, “ The 3-years are full of moments worth making memories. Being a part of St. Stephens has changed life
