You’d think a placement offer of 1 Crore would be enough to qualify as your something that only dream jobs are made of, but four students from IIT Kanpur, have carefully turned the money down, to pursue higher studies, and more professionally fulfilling jobs.
The head of Placement at IIT Kanpur Deepu Philip confirmed the news by saying, ‘The offer to these four students was for a take home salary of $150,000, or close to Rs 93 lakh per annum. Along with other incentives and perks, the size of the package was more than Rs 1 crore yearly.’
The four students – three male and one female – were picked by an undisclosed MNC for taking up positions for the hefty amount, in the placement drive that started 5 days ago, that is said to have a total number of 1290 students participating. 250 companies including corporate giants like Google, Mitsubishi, Oracle, Microsoft, Citibank, Samsung, Amazon, Facebook and more, are expected to turn up for selecting their future employees from the premier institute uptil December 24.
Out of the four students, two of them have decided to take up a lesser payscale offer of 50 Lakhs from a relatively smaller company, while two of them have opted to take their education to the next level before stepping into the 9 to 5 job industry.
“The girl student and one of the boys declined the offer saying it did not match their temperament and that they wanted professional fulfilment from their jobs. The two have accepted offers of Rs 50 lakh per annum from a smaller company. The remaining two students said they want to focus on higher studies and were, therefore, not keen on taking up the Rs 1 crore offer,” Philip clarified.
It is to be noted that this wasn’t the first time that a student from IIT was placed with an offer of Rs. 1 Crore.A few days back, an IIT Kharagpur bagged the highes job offer of Rs. 1.5 Crore.
