Inside Google Office | 15 coolest things you get as a Google Employee.

1. The Food:
Ofcourse, you need food to run the most successful search engine in the world along with providing other internet related services and products. Google makes sure that its employees are well-fed, which is evident by the 25 different cafes that are sprawled across their Mountain View office, each of which is run by it’s own expert-in-cuisine chef.

Google makes sure that no employee is ever more than 150 feet away from food source, hence it also provides micro-kitchens, just in case you want to try your hand at cooking a healthy gourmet meal for yourself. These are tastefully stacked with mutigrain baked eatables, roasted seaweed, low fat trail mix, organic and seasonal fruits, latte machines, dried fruits, assortments of white and dark chocolate, leafy greens and more.

Let the Hunger Games begin.

They have a Salad Station too, for all you health freaks.

2. The Google Death Policy:
If you meet an early death while working at Google, your spouse continues to get half of your salary for the next 10 years, along with life insurance payout. Not only this, any stocks that you owned will be vested immediately to your spouse, who also gets an additional $1000 if you have any children, till they turn 19 or 23, in case they are pursuing full-time studies.
“One of the things we realized recently was that one of the harshest but most reliable facts of life is that at some point most of us will be confronted with the death of our partners,” Laszlo Bock, Senior VP, people Operations at Google told Forbes, “And it’s a horrible, difficult time no matter what, and every time we went through this as a company we tried to find ways to help the surviving spouse of the Googler who’d passed away.”

3. The Google Subsidized Massage Program:
Yes, it is as fancy as it sounds! Who doesn’t like to be pampered, so if you are a Google employee and the stress of your job is getting to you, feel free to subscribe to Google’s Subsidized Massage Program for a small fee, where you will be indulged in by a  trained and licensed massage therapist, in one of the private rooms at the company.

The Massage Rooms at Google are the only place, apart from the bathrooms, that have opaque windows.

4. The 80/20 rule:
Google appreciates new innovations, just as much as it appreciates the individual growth of employees who are responsible for it. To keep the brain gears of these employees moving, Google instructs its employees to take 20 percent of their working hours, to work on a personal project – anything that they are passionate about. Many small features in Gmail today, were ideas that Google employees came up with, during their ’20 percent time’, along with Google News and Google Shuttle.

5. The Google Shuttle & GFleet:
Google believes in ‘commuting sustainably’ which means, that they not only save the environment by providing their employees with biodiesel shuttles as a means of transportation from their house to the office, but they also cut down costs. By keeping thousands of Google Employees out of their car’s driver seats, Google has managed to keep 71 million vehicles off the road annually, resulting in 20,000 metric ton less of CO2 produced.

You’d think, what’s so special in that, right? A lot of Indian companies provide private office cab and bus service, too. Here’s the thing. The Google Shuttle looks like this:

It has real time information system, wi-fi, cleanest diesel engine ever built and carries your bicycles, luggage, all in an ultra-comfortable ride.

Not only this, for on-campus travelling Google provides you low-carbon transportation with electric rechargeable cars, which are made up of “Chevrolet Volts, Nissan LEAFs, Mitsubishi iMiEVs, Ford Focus Electrics, and a Honda Fit EV,” as per their website.

Google Employees have used GFleets to travel almost 825,000 miles uptil now.

6. Customizable Work Stations:
Say good-bye to boring cubicles! Google believes in having open spaces in their offices, where everyone is accessible for everyone.

If that is not good enough for you, Google allows you to pick your space from the coolest work-stations available across the 100 different corporate offices all over the world.

We are totally digging the (2) ‘Egg Hundle Space’ from the Zurich Office.

Or you can just swing around while you code away.

Or you can just sit around in this ball pit if nothing else seems to working, yes?

..because who doesn’t need a lava lamp?

8. Access to Google’s yet-to-be launched products:
As an employee at Google, you get to test all the products and services that Google plans to launch, before they actually hit the market. Yes, this also means, if you were working at Google right now, you would’ve touched, used or probably owned the fancy Google Glass by now. Or the smart contact lenses that monitors blood-sugar levels. Or Google Sky which when installed on your phone and pointed to the sky, gives you a detailed information about all the constellations and celestial body locations in that area. The lists can go on forever.

9. Everyday is ‘Take your Pet to work’ day:
Google is a pet-friendly company, so if you are afraid to leave your pet at home while you’re away at the Google office, this employee benefit takes the cake. This rule is applicable to anyone from a senior position to the lower staff, subjected to the behavior of the pet, which is ideally expected to be a dog. As far as cats go, Google believes that – “We like cats, but we’re a dog company, so as a general rule we feel cats visiting our offices would be fairly stressed out.

10. Google takes ‘Environment Friendly’ to a new level:
Instead of using lawnmowers to mow down the lawn at their Mountain View office, Google decided to go less-noise, low-cost, low-carbon instead, by hiring a herd of 200 goats who graze the grassy fields of Google and keep the weeds in check. These goats are kept in line by Jen, the Border-Collie dog. According to the employees, the another reason to have goats on-premises is that they are “a lot cuter to watch than lawn mowers.”

11. If you find a Google employee who is thinking to leave Google soon, you can go tell about them to the Google Management, to  get a referral bonus of $2000.

 12. Endless Lap Pools:
The endless Lap pools provide an interesting space-saving alternative to swimming pools. The water in the pool that measures almost equal to a lap, flows in direction opposite to that of the swimmer. The speed of the water flow can be adjusted and there is a life guard present at all times for safety.
