The work culture is great and is focused towards research in software, hardware and they even have a team that works in the field of life sciences”.
Q. What were you looking for in your internship?
“I was looking for a great mentor who could guide me through the entire process of solving a research problem. All the way from its conception to developing a prototype. In addition to that, a challenging project, a group whose goals align well to my fields of interest and a work culture that would allow me to pursue my own ideas freely”.
Q. How many internships did you apply to before getting shortlisted?
Bagging an Internship at TCS in the first go, Saqib didn’t apply for other internships. He says, “I got the opportunity because I was a finalist at CodeVita 2014-15, a programming competition hosted by Tata Consultancy Services”.
Q. Do you feel more ‘ready’ for the job market?
“Definitely. I got to learn new skills, not just technical ones but professional ones like time management, communication, presentation”.
“You will make mistakes, but that is fine as long as you learn from them”
Q. Would you recommend Letsintern to others? If yes, Why?
Yes. LetsIntern is a student friendly portal that curates internship opportunities for students.
Q. In the end, do you have any tips that can help other students in getting a good internship?
“Look for a place where you can work on interesting and challenging projects. This pushes you out of your comfort zone. But don’t forget that a lot of things will not work as you expect them to. You will make mistakes, but that is fine as long as you learn from them. Those mistakes will be essential towards your personal and professional development”.
- Try to master a few set of skills rather than being an average in a lot of skills.
- In this day and age, a lot of good material in the form of book, videos, MOOCs is available online for free.
- Make the best use of those resources. Taking up courses and working on projects will boost your resume.
“As for the interviews, I can only speak for programming and development related ones. Being good at Data Structures, Algorithms and being well versed in the concepts of Computer Science well helps a lot”.
