Top 3 Scholarships you should apply to right now | From LIC, Ministry of Minority Affairs + Dept. of Science & Technology, Government of India.


1. INSPIRE Scholarship, Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India
Who can apply: The scholarships are limited only to the candidates who have passed Class XII in the year 2014 from various recognized Indian State and Central Boards and are planning to study/ are studying courses in Natural/Basic Sciences at three years B.Sc, B.Sc (Hons), four years BS and five years integrated M.Sc/MS programs in any UGC recognized College/ University/Institutions in India.

The scheme in its current format does not include courses in Engineering, Medicine, Technology and other professional or technical or applied science courses.

Scholarship Amount: Each eligible candidate will receive scholarship valued at Rs. 80,000 annually. The cash value payable to the SHE scholarship holder is Rs. 60,000 per annum along with a summer time attachment fee of Rs. 20,000 which will be paid for undertaking summer time research project.

Number of Scholarships: 10,000

Scholarship Duration: The selected candidates will be supported for a maximum period of five years starting from 1st year course in B.Sc., B.Sc (Hons), BS and integrated course leading to MS or M.Sc or till completion of the course, whichever is earlier.

Continuation of the scholarship for selected candidates is based on performance in the examinations conducted and certified by the institution imparting education.

The last date to apply online is October 31, 2014.

 2. LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship
Who can apply: Students who have passed Class XII exam or its equivalent in the academic year 2013-14 with at least 60% marks or equivalent grade and annual income of whose parents/guardian from all sources does not exceed 1,00,000/- per annum and are interested to pursue higher education in the field of:
Medicine, Engineering, Graduation in any discipline, Diploma Course in any field or other equivalent courses.

Vocational Courses through Government recognized Colleges/Institutes or courses in Industrial Training Institutes (ITI).

Scholarship Amount: An amount of Rs. 10,000/- per annum will be awarded to the selected candidate which is payable in ten monthly installments of Rs. 1,000 each. The scholarship amount will be transferred to Bank Account of the selected scholar through NEFT. Therefore in case the candidate is selected for scholarship, the Bank Account details and IFSC code are compulsory.

Duration:  Scholarship shall be provided for the entire duration of the course subject to the candidate fulfilling the requisite eligibility conditions for renewal.

The last date to apply this year is September 23, 2014.

3. MOMA scholarship by Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India
The scholarship is meant to provide financial assistance to students who belong to the minorities (Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhist, Jain and Parsi communities)  to help them pursue undergraduate and/or post graduate level technical and professional courses from a recognized institution in India.

Who can apply:

  • Students who get admission to a college to pursue technical/professional courses are eligible for these scholarships.
  • However, such students should have not less than 50% marks at higher secondary/graduation level. Selection of these students will be done strictly on merit basis.
  • A scholarship holder under this scheme will not avail any other scholarship/stipend for pursuing the course.
  • The annual family income of the beneficiary/parent or guardian of the beneficiary should not exceed Rs. 2.50 lakh per annum from all sources.

Amount: The selected students will be awarded scholarship amount of up to Rs. 30,000 (hostelers) and Rs. 25,000 (day scholars).

However full course fee will be reimbursed for some institutions which the various IITs, IIMs, NITs, IIITs, NIFTs, IISc Bangalore, and other government institutes and colleges.

The last for submission of online applications for fresh scholarship by students is September 30, 2014.
