1. Knowledge Incubation for TEQIP, IIT Kanpur.
(Winter Internship and Visiting Researcher program 2014)

Location: IIT Kanpur
Duration: 3 weeks (December 7-27, 2014)
Financials: Lodging and boarding at student hostel (based on the availability) for the period of stay + Reimbursement of travel expenses.

This program is only for postgraduate students (ME/M.Tech/M.Sc/PhD) and faculty members who are studying at the TEQIP colleges under KIT, IIT Kanpur quality circle. You can check the list of eligible colleges here. The interested students can apply in any department of their interest at IIT Kanpur.

Number of Internships: 10 for students and 10 for faculty members.

2. Economics and Social Sciences (ESS). IIM Bangalore
Location: IIM Bangalore
Duration: Initially for a period of one year and extendable up to 3 years.
Stipend: An all-inclusive monthly stipend in the range of Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 20,000 plus an additional house rent allowance of Rs. 3,000 based on educational qualification and experience of the applicant.

Eligibility: Bachelors or a Masters degree in Economics or Political Science. Prospective applicants must have a strong background in one or more of the following fields: Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Econometrics, Business Law, and Political Science.

The interns would also get a chance to assist department faculty in ongoing research projects and to get research exposure across a wide range of fields such as Environmental Economics, International Trade, Agricultural Economics, International Monetary Economics, Privatization and Regulation, among others.

3. ISI Kolkata Winter School
Location: ISI Kolkata
Duration: 5 days (December 1-5, 2014)
Stipend: Accommodation will be provided to the out-sider participants. Limited travel support may be provided depending on the availability of funds.

Eligibility: Anyone who is interested can apply. The maximum number of all applicants to be selected for the winter school is about 50.

he purpose of this winter school is to reach out to young researchers in statistics as well as in Computer Science to see how statistics is applied to cryptology. The winter school will cover a range of topics in the areas of cryptology which have application of statistics.

4. IPTSE Winter School – conducted by Carnegie Mellon University, UK in India annually.
Location: NITK, Surathkal
Duration: 2 weeks (Decemer 10-24, 2014)
Financials: You are required to pay for transportation and living expenses during the winter school. Estimated total cost is Rs. 5000.

Application Procedure: You are requested to select a primary and a secondary track (Multimedia Analysis, Neural Networks for Data Analysis and Computational Models in Civic Problems). And you can work on only one track.

Fill this application form and email two letters of recommendation to no later than October 15, 2014.

Eligibility: Undergraduate BE/B.Tech students can apply for this IPTSE winter school. Preference is given to pre-final year students but some second year students were also selected last year.

Tracks: This year they will have 3 tracks which you can work on and you will have to choose 2 tracks of your choice, one primary and second one that is secondary. And you will work on only one track.

The tracks for this year are: Multimedia Analysis, Neural Networks for Data Analysis and Computational Models in Civic Problems. More details on these tracks can be checked here.

Stages: The internship program is composed of two stages. In the first stage, students apply to participate in a two-week winter school in early December in India. During these two weeks, students will attend lectures that will cover research and research methodologies, tools and techniques, insights about theory and practice, and a broad overview of the field of technology-supported education. Students will participate in team projects, which will be presented in demo sessions at the end of the winter school. Students who successfully complete the winter school will be invited to apply for research internships at Carnegie Mellon University. Successful applicants for stage two will be matched with internship advisors for a summer internship at Carnegie Mellon University’s main campus in Pittsburgh, USA, for the summer. Some financial support for the summer internship may be available.
