Ecoware is led by Founder & CEO, Ms. Rhea Mazumdar Singhal. Rhea founded Ecoware in 2010 when there was little awareness about the harmful effects of plastic. Cheap oil prices had led to a proliferation of plastic production and usage. Yet, the devastation caused to the natural environment and the harmful effects on human and animal health went unnoticed. There were no plastic bans or any sort of incentives to change consumer behaviour. This is when Rhea decided to disrupt the commoditsed packaging industry by creating a natural and healthy alternative to single-use plastics.

Rhea received the Nari Shakti Puraskar, India’s highest civilian honour, by the President of India in 2019 for her efforts to eradicate single-use plastics. She is a Young Global Leader of World Economic Forum and Asia 21 Young Leader, an honour given by the Asia Society to dynamic individuals under the age of 40 who will impact global affairs. Rhea is the current chairperson for the norther region of the CII Indian Women Network and also sits on the panel of two CII national committees on clean air and women empowerment. Rhea was awarded the Enterprising Woman of the Year in March 2020 by the government of India. Rhea has attended the University of Bristol, Oxford and Harvard University.
