Welcome! College life awaits you with open arms.
Welcome! College life awaits you with open arms.

Wow. First of all Congratulations! You are entering a new and beautiful phase of your life. How do you feel about it? Excited? Nervous? Even if you are feeling both excited and nervous or even a little giddy for finally bagging that brilliant college, we won’t judge. However, being someone exceedingly concerned about you, we will throw in some college hacks your way to help you sail through the first day of college easily.

Know your classroom

You won't want to lose your way and be late on the first day of college itself.
You won’t want to lose your way and be late on the first day of college itself.

Yes, you might know the building in which your classes will be held, but that is not enough. You won’t want to rush around, trying to frantically search for your classroom and be late on the first day of college itself. Of course, no Professor McGonagall from the Harry Potter series will threaten to turn you into a pocket watch or a map if you turn up late on the first day itself, but it won’t make the right impression either. Take a quick tour of your classroom a day before to be on the safer side.

Carry along a notebook and a pen

Don't walk into the classroom without even a pen or notebook in hand.

Even if it is the first day of your college and you don’t expect to make many notes, it is important to carry a notebook and a pen along. Some of the teachers believe in starting off on the first day itself. The rest who want to give you a rest will pitch in something important here and there, and you will have to keep up with it.

Introduce yourself to your professors

Sit in the front, introduce yourself to the professors and make the right impression.

It might seem like a far-fetched idea, and you might even wonder that this might be pushing things, but it is far from all that. You should go out of your way, greet your professors, introduce yourself and have a one or two line conversation before moving up. That way the teacher will remember your face even if they don’t remember your name, and you will feel more confident speaking up in class. A good way to get noticed by professors would be to sit in the front and right in the middle. Maintain this spot for a few days to start college on a confident note.

Start work before the due time

Start working on projects and assignments way before the due date.

College can be too much fun and addictive, but you won’t want to lag behind in your studies on account of that. Start reading the books prescribed in your syllabus and start working even before the teachers give any deadline or bombard you with heaps of assignments.

Coordinate your schedule

Make a 'washroom' schedule to avoid a last minute rush everyday.
Make a ‘washroom’ schedule to avoid a last minute rush everyday.

This is by far the most important college hack that you should remember when starting a new college, especially if you are going to stay in a hostel or P.G.

Coordinate your schedule with your roommate or roommates and other hostel mates. You won’t want the last minute rush to use the washroom the drier. Make a schedule in agreement with your new mates and follow it so that neither you nor they have to suffer and spoil their mood every morning.

Keep these college hacks up your sleeves to have a fun and colours filled college life. To read more about colleges, check out our Letsintern blog and read more about colleges and college life. Also, don’t get so involved in all the fun that you forget what you are there for, that is, to build a career. Start working on it from day one and look through virtual internships or summer internships and winter internships as and when required to build on your future.
