India chapter of Digital Winners (DW) 2015 offers a unique opportunity to software developers to showcase their mobile apps to a global audience. Digital Winners India is a contest to identify the best app that can bring a positive change in the community and digitally empower the masses in their day-to-day personal and professional lives.

The theme for this year’s contest is ‘Education’. The contest will identify cool apps and startups that have the potential to lead us to a more informed and educated world population, transforming and empowering societies. This is the second consecutive year of the contest.

The aim of the competition is to engage and select the best mobile application in India that can be featured on a global platform to compete for the “Best App in Asia” contest to be held at the Digital Winners’ conference in Oslo, Norway.

 The winning app of India contest gets the following:

  • The winner of the Best App in Asia at Oslo will be rewarded a cash prize of NOK 100,000 to be reinvested for further development and support from Telenor’s global digital team.
  • Will represent India at the Best App in Asia Contest to be held at Oslo, Norway.
  • Will be showcased at the Digital Winners global platform represented by leading industry experts.
  • Will be provided mentorship and assistance by Uninor’s team for marketing and developing the app further for commercial/mass market.
  • Will be part of special promotions and publicity by Uninor.

2. Grace Hopper – Celebration of Women in Computing India (GHCI) – Hackathon, Anita Borg Institute
Join Grace Hopper for Tech for Good 2015, the exclusive women-only Hackathon.  This is a great opportunity to interact and code with other women students and industry professionals from computing and technology backgrounds. During the Hackathon the participants will work on ideas/projects that have a social impact.

Procedure: The Hackathon will be conducted as a contest over two rounds. The first round will be conducted in five different cities (Bangalore, Hyderabad, Madurai, New Delhi and Pune). The top finalists selected from the first round, will present their applications at the grand finale. This round will be held at the largest technical conference for women in India – the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing India (GHCI) 2015 in Bangalore during 2-4 December, 2015. The winning teams will be chosen by a panel of judges at the grand finale during GHCI 2015.

At the end of the entire Hackathon the participants will walk away with the experience of expanding their knowledge in areas of innovation, design, coding, collaboration and presentation. The participants can also look forward to the satisfaction of knowing that they have contributed and helped to make the world a little better for those in need.
