What We Need:
ShoeBox Labs is in need of 2 super enthusiastic, super-interns (think Incredibles!) who are curious, inquisitive (Go on….try to annoy us with your questions!), don’t need a desk to feel productive and can basically figure out whatever it takes to get the job done! We are looking for creative people who can maneuver the challenge of juggling multiple tasks, and have a lot of fun while doing it.

Why do Workshops Matter?
For ShoeBox Labs, our workshops are our bridges to the children we are designing for. We use the workshops as a means to get valuable insights and feedback directly from the users. Workshops allow us to stay grounded and remain close to our end users and inform us any and all ground realities that we should be keeping in mind when we are designing our program. Our workshops ensure that our program truly reflects the needs of children!

What does ShoeBox Labs offer you? Good question!
Interns work and are treated like full time ShoeBox Labs team members. ?Although the primary focus for this internship is the workshops, at ShoeBox Labs we believe in creating opportunities to discover where your true passions lie. If during your time with us, you want to experiment with a task that doesn’t fall directly under your responsibilities we’ll support you in making it happen!

This is a paid opportunity. A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required. It is a big plus if you have prior experience working with young children or organizing events.

Roles and Responsibilities:

As an Intern at ShoeBox Labs you will:
Understand and learn how to facilitate workshops and interact with young children to create an environment for playful learning.
Design and fabricate models of Tiny Theaters, Scribbling Robots, Automatons (are you curious yet?) and much more! This means getting your hands dirty to make and create, and bring your own ideas to life!
Take charge of all logistical details to execute a successful workshop.
Observe workshop participants and processes to better understand student takeaways and the potential of tinkering in long term learning and growth.
Debrief and discuss observations and participant experience from the workshop and help build the framework for future research into tinkering.
Manage social media handles to keep ShoeBox Labs followers updated and informed about our work.

About Company

At ShoeBox Labs we believe education should foster the ability to think, to be curious and to be creative. To this end, we are aiming to set up ShoeBox Labs, a state of the art facility bringing together play (the physical world), collaboration (the social world) and technology (the digital world) into one space where tinkerers will be seen working with wood, drills, laser cutters and 3-D printers, discussing ideas, arguing out methods and debating options, exploring and developing physical and digital technology to create, iterate and invent.
